Accused cat-killer must turn over most of his pets
May 15th, 2008 Posted in Pet PicturesA Boulder County man accused of beating a kitten to death by bashing its head repeatedly into a bookcase must remove all animals from his home except for one cat and one dog, a Boulder County District Court judge ordered Thursday.
That restriction is among several conditions Charles Kenneth Corwin, 57, must comply with as part of a two-year deferred sentenced he was given for an animal-cruelty charge.
If Corwin doesn’t violate his two-year sentence, the charge will be dropped.
Corwin told police he bashed a kitten’s head against a bookcase and threw its lifeless body through a cat door Dec. 11 after catching it chewing through his wife’s oxygen-pump tube.
Thursday, at a hearing to outline the terms and conditions of his deferred sentence, Corwin argued to keep three cats, four kittens and one dog at his house because of the comfort they provide his ailing wife.
Judge David Archuleta rejected the request and also ordered Corwin to undergo a mental-health evaluation and stay off drugs and alcohol.
