Coyotes Coming In Close Contact With Natomas Pets

Coyotes are known to attack pets, but incidents normally take place in rural areas. A neighborhood in Natomas is experiencing a worrying number of close encounters between family pets and wild coyotes.

A family in Natomas enjoys living along a nature trail, but they got a recent brush with the dark side of nature.

“When the sun goes down, that’s when they come out,” said one family member. They have had several separate encounters with coyotes in the area, the first coming a couple weeks ago when Gene was walking the family’s two huskies along the trail.

“One of the dogs started jerking on his leash,” he said. “I turned around and a coyote was following us.”

Later, Gene encountered another coyote, but this one actually came into contact with his dogs, nipping at one of the huskies.

“I hollered at the coyote and he took off,” he said. “But then he started circling around.”

Some neighbors were surprised to hear about the encounters, saying that they had lived in the area for years and not noticed anything.

Experts say that coyotes are able to adapt to different situations, and say coyotes are known to roam the Sacramento area.
