CPR And First Aid Rescue Pets From The Grave

Sudden pet death from choking, heart failure or serious wounds doesn’t have to happen.

Each class lasts about three hours and students train in the basics of the Heimlich maneuver, CPR and mouth to mouth breathing to save dogs and cats in cases of choking or drowning.

Red Cross trainer Tammie Bouschor also teaches her students how to approach injured and potentially aggressive animals, as well as how to staunch blood flow in the case of wounds.

Though the class can be very useful in saving a pet’s life, Bouschor says pet owners must understand that first aid does not replace immediate transfer of the animal to the veterinary hospital.
