City council rejects plan to let pets on buses

September 10th, 2008 Posted in Pets Guide

Pets won’t be riding public transit any time soon after city council voted down the development of a policy to allow it by a vote of 14-8 Wednesday.

Most transit systems in Canada allow this in off-peak hours as long as the animals are small and in cages, and Bay Councillor Alex Cullen and Capital Councillor Clive Doucet wanted Ottawa to develop a similar policy.

But a majority of councillors were against the move mainly due to allergy concerns and a feeling that municipal transit staff have more important things to do than wrangle animals.
