Evolution Range Rover 2002 - Now
February 4th, 2008 Posted in Pets Guide THE Range Rover luxury 4WD has been around since 1970, but in
that time only three generations have been released.
The current model went on sale in August 2002. This model
included a car-like monocoque chassis, new engines and
transmissions and electronic control systems.
It was an interesting amalgam as it started development when BMW
owned Land Rover. But Ford was in control by the time it went on
sale.
BMW provided the engines: a 210 kW/440 Nm 4.4-litre V8 and a 130
kW/390 Nm 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo-diesel. All had a
five-speed auto.
The Td6 (turbo-diesel) was offered in SE and HSE trim levels,
while the V8 was available as an HSE and Vogue.
Standard equipment included up to eight airbags, stability
control, ABS,
Hill Descent Control, alloy wheels, leather trim, powered front
seats, climate control, rain-sensing wipers and six-speaker
audio.
In August 2005, the Range Rover went through a significant
overhaul when two Ford-sourced petrol engines replaced the BMW V8.
A normally aspirated 225 kW/440 Nm 4.4-litre V8 and a supercharged
4.2-litre 291 kW/560 Nm V8 were now the choices. All had a
six-speed auto.
The BMW diesel was dropped for the 2007 model year, replaced by
a 200 kW/640 Nm twin-turbo V8. As the Vogue, it was priced at
$140,900; as the Vogue Luxury, $165,900.

The Range Rover offers luxurious on-road transport for five as
well as great off-road ability. The turbo-diesel is the go if you
are fuel-economy conscious. — BRUCE NEWTON
