Fun Games to Play with Your Ferret
August 13th, 2008 Posted in Reptile PetsProviding your ferret with fun, mentally stimulating toys is an important part of ferret enrichment, but even more important is the playtime with the ultimate toy - you!
You should always spend at least two hours per day interacting with your ferret. This is vital both to his socialization and his psychological wellbeing. And because ferrets are playful animals, that two hours isn’t going to be spent with him sitting in your lap! Below are some fun games that will stimulate his innate instincts and abilities as well as encourage his natural behaviors.
A-Maze-ing Fun
Create a maze and hide treats and toys throughout it.
Snorkeling for Toys
Create a dig box for your ferret and then hide toys in it.
Fishing for Ferrets
Purchase or create a toy that has something suspended from a plastic stick or pole with string, then drag it slowly across the floor to get him to “hunt” it.
Tag
Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like! Chase your ferret around the room on your hands and knees, tag him, then turn and let let him chase you.
The Towel Game
You can play the towel game in two ways. The first is to play tug-of-war with the towels. The second is to get your ferret to jump on the towel while you hold the corners of it, then drag him around the room. You can just give him a ride, or you can flip him off after dragging him a short distance.
Pro Wrestling for Ferrets
Use your hand to flip your ferret around, pin him to the mat, and give him the fun wrestling experience he craves.
The Ferret Indy 500
Drive a remote control car around the room as your ferret jumps on it, knocks it over, and chases it around.
These are just a few of the games and activities that you and your ferret can do. For more fun game ideas, check out our /
