Local pet owner: Recalled pet food made my cat sick
February 2nd, 2008 Posted in Reptile PetsPet owners here in the Desert continue to worry whether their pets have been poisoned or not. Now, a Twentynine Palms woman says one of her cats is sick after eating the recall-effected food. Katrina Frenier noticed one of her four cats, Rapunzel, acting a little strange and urinating frequently. Frenier says she had been feeding her cats Special Kitty Select Packets of cuts and gravy for more than 3 months. “I noticed her fur has been getting stringy and clumpy,” Frenier says. “Shes just not as happy as she used to be.” When Frenier heard about MenuFoods pet food recall she checked to see if Kitty Select is on it. And to her horror, it is. Realizing Rapunzel ate the tainted food, she took her to the veterinarian The High Desert Animal Hospital says Rapunzel has kidney failure. The vet told Frenier it will take time but Rapunzel can get better. This is the second blow to Frenier. She found out last summer she has bone cancer and her favorite cat is whats gotten her through the tough times. Frenier says her cancer treatment takes a backseat to her cat Rapunzels health. Shell spend the money set aside for a car to get Rapunzel better.
