March 1st, 2008 Posted in Reptile Pets

The national campaign Spay Day USA is making the push for pet owners to “fix” their cats and dogs to reduce pet overpopulation The campaign also claims spaying pets will make the pet happier and relaxed. Spay Day USA began in 1993 and is recognized on the third Tuesday in February. Nearly 1.4 million pets have been fixed on Spay Day. Supporters of the cause calculated the effects of having an unfixed cat. “One cat and its offspring, if not spayed, can have 73, 000 cats,” local pet author Arden Moore said. “Thats the population of Palm Desert and Palm Springs.” Pet shelter Animal Samaritans in Thousand Palms offers spaying at $75 for dogs and $50 for cats. They also have grants for low-income pet owners. For more information on the Animal Samaritans spay offer, go to www.animalsamaritans.org.
